It is such a great feeling to walk into a clean and tidy home. But for those with small kids or large family, it sometimes becomes difficult to come home to that feeling. Here are 5 tips that can help you keep your home tidy.
1. Make a home for everything.
Have you ever asked "Honey, have you seen my keys?"
Having a home for your keys at the door avoids waste of time of looking for it.
2. Categorize your stuff.
For people with kids as an example, I would put all Barbie toys related in one box that may only be taken out once another set of toys have been put away.
3. Plastic Containers are a must in keeping things tidy.
After you categorize your stuff. Box them so that you can only search for it in one box. I made a box with all gift wrapping related items. Tape, scissors, gift bags, cards and wrapping paper. Anytime I need to wrap a gift which is often, I know exactly where everything is.
4. Tidy up little by little before procrastination kicks in.
Dishes are never ending work for everyone who does them. But doing a day's of dishes is much worse then a few minutes of washing the dishes for each meal. If I see a few plates and cups, I know Its a matter of a few minutes. But If I leave a stack of dishes for the end of day, I will feel lazy to do them.
5. Make household rules.
My very sweet husband would come in from work and drop his jacket anywhere in the house. I would then get frustrated to see it and put it away in the closet. In addition to the many things to do around the house, he can avoid my frustration by simply putting his jacket in a hanger every time he came in. Although to me it was normal to hang my jacket, it was a rule I had to be firm about and train him to do so because the kids were following his foot steps.
In conclusion, your habits, your household rules and organization skills are what makes your home be tidy and clean.
